Summer and mycosis equals a bad combination. Nedovoľte jej, aby vás ovládla!

The last thing you want to deal with in the summer and by the water is vaginal mycosis and the discomfort it brings with it. Irritating itching, burning and sometimes associated pain. Not to mention that it would be really unfair to others if you went to public swimming pools in spite of these difficulties. But sitting at home in the heat is not a godsend. Therefore, get rid of it quickly or avoid it altogether.

Up to three quarters of women literally know the word mycosis personally. It is caused by a yeast, most often Candida albicans, which every woman has in her body, but when it overgrows, the disease occurs. Summer with mycosis is not only unpleasant, but also impractical and complicates the life of both the woman herself and her partner. Therefore, there is no need to wait at the first symptoms and immediately visit a gynecologist. Today's treatment is already fast and successful.

How do you find out you have mycosis

It often happens that women do not know how to relate the symptoms to the correct diagnosis, which is natural. That's where the specialist comes in. "Patients experience itching and burning in the vagina, burning and cutting during urination, pain during intercourse may be added. Very typical is the discharge, which is white, thick, lumpy, with the appearance of cottage cheese. The discharge may be odourless, but it may also resemble yeast," says gynaecologist of the FRAIS Institute of Health and Beauty MUDr. Jakub Daniš.

Mycoses are more common in summer

For many ladies, summer is the most beautiful and best time of the year, which is obviously confirmed by the yeasts that multiply in the hot season. There are many things that trigger mycosis - from diabetes, stress, a weakened immune system, pregnancy and hormonal changes, to poor or excessive hygiene. "But the fact remains that we see more vaginal mycosis in outpatient clinics during the summer months - the change in air temperature and humidity, wearing wet bathing suits, bathing in hot or chlorinated water, more frequent use of tampons. In the same way, increased intake of sugary foods and drinks leads to an overgrowth of yeast," describes MUDr. Jakub Daniš.

What about it?

"In the early stages, one can reach for over-the-counter topical antiseptics or antifungals at the pharmacy. At an advanced stage of the disease, or in case of recurrent problems, it is necessary to visit a doctor and to start a targeted treatment," advises the gynaecologist.

If you are susceptible to this disease, at least try to avoid it by wearing cotton underwear, airy clothes and changing into a dry swimsuit after swimming. It is impractical, but less so than when the mycosis manifests itself fully. Do not use perfumed soaps or toiletries and change tampons or pads more often when you are menstruating. And don't forget probiotics.

Partner and other people around you

Keep in mind that you should not go to swimming pools during treatment and also avoid sexual intercourse with your partner. However, if your partner is also experiencing symptoms, he or she must also undergo treatment. "In the case of repeated and frequent mycoses in both partners, more serious diseases should also be considered and a specialist should definitely be visited," adds MUDr. Jakub Daniš.
