If you are unable to relieve the distension of the rectus abdominis muscles with exercise, you should consider surgical correction of the diastasis.
In diastasis of the rectus abdominis muscles, the abdomen is bulging from the inside because it is not held by the abdominal wall. It arises as a result of too much internal pressure when the ligamentous connection between the right and left sides of the rectus abdominis muscle is weakened.
These are separated from each other and moved sideways to create a gap. Diastasis most often affects women after childbirth, but it can also occur in men and children. Genetics, incorrect posture with weakened abdominal muscles, inadequate exercise or a functional abdominal wall disorder may also be to blame.
In some cases, abdominal muscle spacing is visible along the entire length of the midline, while other times it appears as a result of excess weight in the form of a sagging or protruding abdomen.
During surgery, the surgeon pulls the two straight abdominal muscles back together and staples them together. The result is a firmer flat belly. Unless there are major weight changes, the effect is permanent.
Diastasis surgery is often part of an abdominoplasty – the removal of excess skin and fat on the abdomen. In this case, the patient must expect a scar on the abdomen.
WARNING: For women, the procedure cannot be performed 3 days before menstruation, during menstruation and 3 days after menstruation.
At the FRAIS Institute of Health and Beauty we offer the possibility to pay for plastic surgery procedures in instalments. Contact us for more info.
