What is acne and how does it arise?
Acne is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that mostly affects the face - it forms on the forehead, chin, cheeks and nose. Apart from the face, it can bother us on the back , chest, and shoulders. "The cause of the appearance and development of acne is inflammation, which begins with the closure of the sebaceous gland duct and continues with the development of non-inflammatory and then inflammatory lesions," says MUDr. Fluke. "This results in an overgrowth of Cutibacterium acnes bacteria, which are otherwise part of the normal skin flora," he adds.
Poor skin care and poor hygiene, improper lifestyle or stress are also bad for acne-prone skin.
The pandemic period may also have taken a toll on the skin - under the wrong or too long worn coverings and respirators, pores become clogged, bacteria proliferate and this is the ideal environment for acne to develop - this has also led dermatologists to name the new diagnosis "Masked".
It's a long haul, but it's worth it!
Fighting acne is not a matter of a few days, which is something to think about before your first visit to the doctor. "Miracles do happen sometimes, but in the treatment of acne it is a process of several weeks or months," says Dr Chríbiková.
The first step to a successful cure is a commitment to seeking a doctor. At the first consultation, the doctor will examine the skin, determine if it is really acne and determine the treatment method and plan.
There are many ways
Acne is a very unique disease, for the treatment of which there is a really wide range of treatments and procedures. Our institute is unique in that you can receive most of the recommended treatment methods in one place.
Patients often seek medical attention only in the advanced stages of the disease, when the necessary and often the only solution is the use of medication. The doctor may prescribe antibiotics or general retinoids, depending on the extent and condition of the disease.
In the lower stages of the disease, for mild acne, or as a follow-up treatment after medication, the doctor may recommend a chemical peel.
Chemical peeling is performed by our doctor using fruit AHA acids, retinol or in the case of deeper peeling using trichloroacetic acid. The principle of the treatment is epidermolysis, the disruption of the superficial layers of the skin, which results in the reduction of pores, reduces oil production and thus contributes to the prevention of acne. It should be repeated several times for optimum effect.
We can also use blood plasma to treat acne. So-called Dracula therapy, or PRP therapy, takes advantage of its natural regenerative effect. The advantage of the treatment is that compared to other techniques, it is your own blood and not foreign substances. This treatment is also recommended to be repeated several times for the best effect.
Various laser treatments have also proven successful in the fight against acne. From a wide range we can choose, for example, fractional CO2 laser treatment. This is a more invasive procedure than PRP therapy or chemical peels. After the CO2 fractional laser treatment it is necessary to count on the recovery of the skin, as it will be sensitive for a few days after the treatment, it may peel or it may be structured. This treatment is very effective in the treatment of acne, as well as after it in the subsequent abrasion and straightening of the skin with various scars or unevenness.
Choose responsibly
If your acne has been bothering you for a while, or if you feel that it has broken out quickly and is at a higher stage, it is important that you seek out a professional to whom you can confide responsibly. "Acne is a disease that should, like other diseases, be assessed by a doctor - a dermatologist, who can then recommend a cosmetic treatment if it will be sufficient, but early arrival, initial consultation and proper treatment is the alpha and omega of success in the fight against acne," concludes our doctor Anna Chríbiková.
