This technique can release tension from the jaw, but has also been dubbed a “natural lift” for its lifting and shaping effect.
Intraoral or “buccal” massage involves the therapist using gloved fingers to squeeze, stroke and massage the muscles and tissues of the mouth. ” Buccal” has become popular as a term to describe intraoral work, but it is actually the name of a muscle that holds a lot of tension and is therefore the site we focus on.
The main factor in buccal massage is to release muscle tension, as most of us tend to have stress in this area (e.g. smoking lines, anger lines, etc…).
When you remove tension and stress from the muscle tissue and stimulate the lymphatic system, it allows the muscles to soften. Muscle liberation adds volume and brings back elasticity. When you work on the face, you are working all the muscles, but you also have the opportunity to work underneath them. It’s more intense, but it’s also more efficient; it increases blood circulation, which means more oxygen. The latter not only helps the skin to glow, but especially helps the muscles to work properly. It also increases collagen production.
