As part of the sex change from male to female, surgery is required to remove the source of the male hormone testosterone – a bilateral orchiectomy.
Male-to-female sex reassignment (orchiectomy)
The course of performance:
- 1The patient arrives on an empty stomach (6 hours before the procedure, he/she must not eat or drink anything)
- 2The procedure begins with an incision above the inguinal canal, which is opened, followed by excision and removal of the testicle.
- 3The groin canal is reinforced with plastic surgery and the operation is completed by suturing the subcutaneous tissue and skin. The operation takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
- 4The patient leaves the health care facility a few hours after the postoperative procedure, or the day after the surgery.
- 5The biggest risks are infection, hematoma in the wound, change in tenderness around the wound, swelling of the scrotum, temperature abscess in the wound or delayed healing.
- 6In order to prevent complications, we recommend adherence to a resting regime, proper hygiene. It is important to avoid heavy physical exertion for about 3 weeks after surgery.
- 7After healing, the next step is vaginoplasty.
